Tonight Jonathan offered his nightly prayer. His prayer was so sweet and simple.
He thanked Heavenly Father for:
-trees
-church
-Cole
-Ryan
-Miss Jenn
-Rachel
-Jenkins
-Ethan
-Lauren
-Baby Jaguar
-picking up trains
-picking up dinosaurs
-bed
-mom
-dad
It is really neat to hear Jonathan offer a full prayer with a heading, what he is grateful for, and a closing.
AMEN.

The Christmas Tale of Pink Shepherds, Pirates and Baby Matthew
We celebrated the Davis Christmas on Monday evening 12/22/2008.
Earlier that day, Grandma Sheila had some of the grandkids: Lauren, Thomas & Jonathan. They practiced The Nativity to be produced that night for the family.
Before they practiced parts were assigned. Lauren was to be Mary, Jonathan was to be Joseph and Thomas refused to be anything but a pink shepherd or a pirate. After much cajoling and trying to reason with the 3 year-old that there were no pirates at Jesus' birth, Thomas agreed to be a sheep.
After dinner, fine Christmas Nachos, the program began. Dad read some excerpts from Luke and the kids came out in their costumes and put on a good show. I think that the Oscar would go to Matthew portraying Jesus in such a calm manner it was almost real. Pacifier and all.
This was great fun and I am sure that the kids had a blast.

All Things Gingerbread
Yesterday afternoon we had our annual Davis Gingerbread House Decorating Day.
Every year my sister, brother and myself along with our respective spouses and children gather at my dad's house to perform at this annual event.
Sheila, our stepmom, buys gingerbread house kits from Costco for each family and extra candy to decorate our houses.
This year Costco got smart and had the houses already preassembled so that the house was ready to decorate. In past years the kit would come with four walls, two pieces for the roof and a chimney. House decorating was delayed so that we could piece our walls and roof together and wait to see if they would stick and hold. There was one year where my dad put a house together and had it decorated only to have the house slump to the side. So, two thumbs up Costco for your brilliance.
There were three houses yesterday for three families: Deason's, Reno's, and Davis'.
The Deason's (us) opened our kit and Jonathan was instantly interested and wanted to put candy on the house. We showed him what to put where and he did a great job. Our kit included a cake decoration that resembled a girl's head. We accidentally dropped and it craked in half. Steve used red frosting to piece her together so it looked as if she either had a massive head wound or was a zombie. We determined that our house this year was the Deason House of Horror.
The Reno's had lots of help from their 6 year-old Lauren. She told me that my house was "pretty but mine is prettier." My sister's gingerbread house was 'cottage-style' and pretty. She is always going w/ simplicity and symmetrical lines. She definitely gets the award for curb appeal.
The Davis' house was being decorated by Rebecca and Rick. Their house is always lots of candy and bright. Their son, Matthew, wasn't able to help them as he is only 5 months old.
During the decorating Thomas, Becky's second, kept circling the table and picking up pieces of candy and eating them. He was our candy scavanger.
To finish off the night all the kids got presents from their great-grandma & grandpa Davis. All the kids got Christmas plates.
After all is done and said we take our gingerbread houses home to look at for the rest of the Christmas season...if the house lasts that long.
Thank you Dad and Sheila for launching this tradition that is so much fun.
It really has been a treat for us and for the kids.

Sharks in the Water
If anybody has driven by Mojave you know about the planes out in the desert. There are lots and lots of giant planes. Before changes were made to I-15 you used to drive right by these planes. Now you are a good 6-10 miles away but the tails of the planes can still be seen on the horizon.
This past trip to Utah we were driving by that area and Steve and I heard Jonathan say something in the back of the car. I asked him to say it again. "Sharks in the water. There are sharks in the water mommy." I looked at Steve and repeated the phrase not sure what would prompt Jonathan to talk about sharks, especially in the desert. Then Steve pointed out my window and said "Sharks in the water." I turned to look and sure enough there were those big planes out on the desert horizon looking like sharks in the water.
I guess I don't have that childhood imagination anymore...I need my 3 year old to show me from his eyes.

For The Love of Turkey...or Ham
This year we spent our Thanksgiving holiday with Steve's mom, Alice, and her husband, Tom, who live in Monroe, Utah. It was a long drive for us but worth all the great food we got to eat.
Plus, driving to Utah means ICEBERG DRIVE-IN. I force my husband to stop every time to get my usual Butterscotch and Peanut Butter shake. I know. The combo sounds weird but trust me...it is AWESOME. My favorite.
Steve's brother's family also spent Thanksgiving there: Adam, Michell, Skyler, and Mikey.
Thursday was spent feasting on the many traditional foods all the way from turkey to sweet potato casserole. And for me...ham (I don't like turkey).
The evenings were spent playing games.
To top all holiday celebration...shooting guns. Fun stuff.
*Grandpa and Jonathan didn't last long after eating so much food.
*Spongebob capitivates quite the audience. (Grandpa, Mikey, Jonathan)
*Two rock stars (Jonathan and Mikey)

Pain & Suffering in Painting Blues
This past July I had this brilliant idea that I would paint our living room blue. Yes, blue. I recruited a couple of friends (thanks Wendy and Marlana) and painted all day. All this without consulting my husband.
After the room was done and things were put away I looked about me and realized what I had done. I hate blue.
I am not a blue person. I generally gravitate to earth tones: browns, reds, yellows. Not blue.

Anyway, my husband pretty much told me that I had to live with it for awhile and I agreed.
Finally, this past month Steve agreed to let me paint again. This time I went a little more neutral.
16 hours later this is the result and I couldn't be happier. I like the extra interest the stripes add and totally love the colors we chose.

Happy Halloween & Happy Birthday
This Halloween was both exciting and exhausting. As previously reported we had spent 3 days down at Disneyland. On Halloween we drove back home just in time to: get a birthday cake, get home and cleaned up and dressed, go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Trick-or-treating was cool. Jonathan was able to say "trick-or-treat" in this really cute little voice that had all the homeowners asking him to say it again and again. Poor guy. We were able to get around the neighborhood one time before Jonathan began to beg to be carried...we called it good.
After trick-or-treating we went home to have cake and ice cream and open presents. Happy Birthday Jonathan. You're 3!
The costume is such a big deal. This year Jonathan dressed up as an x-wing fighter (you know...Star Wars). Steve was pretty excited about the costume that he had his own version of dressing up. Check out the pics.
Disneyland 2008
Well, this year we did D-land for 3 days. Yikes. I know. We just can't help ourselves. When it comes to Disneyland we are fanatical.
Halloween at Disneyland is the best and it is extra special because it is Jonathan's birthday.
We were there 10/29, 10/30, and 10/31.
To start off our adventure Steve was so awesome to book a hotel room at the Disneyland Hotel. I had never stayed there before and was pretty excited.

HYPOCRICY ANYBODY
Anyone that reads this blog knows that I support Proposition 8 and support traditional marriage between man and woman.
The opposition preaches the rhetoric of "tolerance". Hah.
I woke up this morning to go to church and after pulling out of the garage looked and noticed that the two Yes Prop 8 signs in my front yard were destroyed. I looked around my neighborhood and saw that a few houses also suffered the same consequence.
"Tolerance" is misleading. Don't be fooled. "Tolerance" is one-sided and has a double standard. I am expected to "tolerate" those that annihilate the sanctity of family and marriage. While they abhor, devestate, and shriek intolerance to anybody challenging their debauched scheme.
Little did our tolerant thug know is that I have 3 extra signs sitting in my garage. I replaced the ones in my yard and will make a trip to my neighbor's house with the fresh, new, yellow YES on PROP 8 yard signs.

TUBES IN MY EARS
Wednesday 10/22/2008 Jonathan had tubes put in his ears.
Our check-in time at the surgery center was 5:30 a.m. I remember the nurse calling to tell us our appointment time and my reaction was drop-jaw. I informed the nurse that I wasn't sure what 5:30 a.m. looked like. Anyway the night before the surgery we went to bed normal time. At 2:00 a.m. Jonathan woke up crying, scratch that, sobbing and coughing his seal-cough. I got up and went into his room and stood by his bed and listened. He was really congested and having a hard time breathing (of course this happens the day before surgery). Steve and I got the humidifier going and got Jonas back to sleep. Only a couple of hours later we were up and at the surgery center. Once Jonathan got called back the surgery time only took 10-15 minutes. We went back to recovery while Jonathan was coming out of anesthesia. He cried and cried. But after a short while was back to sleep and we were driving home. At home Jonathan and myself laid in my bed and slept on and off until 11:45 a.m. At that time Jonathan got up and announced that he was going to play.
Jonathan hasn't stopped since. His cough is improving and plays with zeal and fervor.
We are grateful that the tubes are in and we are excited that Jonathan may feel better, hear better, and possibly speak better. O the possibilities.
"Teachor, teachor, teachor...I've got toooobes in my eors." Anybody that knows me knows this quote. Accent and all.

Lesser of Two Evils
I have been a registered voter since I was 18. I have voted in all of the elections since that time.
All presidential elections have been nail-biters for me but this one (2008) has me on edge. I am scared. I don't necessarily agree with either of the candidates but will yet again be forced to select from the "lesser of two evils". Why does it always come down to that philosphy? No answer.
Watch this 11:00 video. This video reveals facts that will never be shared by the alphabet nation.

Going "Viral"
Steve and I heartily and fervently support Proposition 8.
We will both give a YES vote on this issue November 4, 2008.
I encourage all to:
1. Register to Vote
2. Research the Matter
3. Make an informed decision
4. VOTE!!
“The face of sin today often wears the Halloween mask of tolerance. Do not be deceived. Behind that facade is heartache, unhappiness, and pain. You know what is right and what is wrong, and no disguise, however appealing, can change that truth. The character of transgression remains the same. If your so called friends urge you to do anything you know to be wrong, you be the one to make a stand for right, even if you stand alone. Have the moral courage to be a light for others to follow. There’s no friendship more valuable than your own clear conscience, your own moral cleanliness…”

MY NAME IS JONAS...JONATHAN...JONAS
Many people hear me or my husband call our son Jonas.
There is reason behind our madness.
Jonathan is unable to say his own name (I guess three syllables are too many).
Whenever we ask Jonathan what his name is he pats himself on the chest and says "I Jonas".
I guess it stuck.

Wedded Bliss x9
09/04/1999 was the day that Steve and I were married and sealed for all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple. Today is nine years from that date. Amazing.
Being married to Steve has been wonderful. I was once told by a friend that Steve and I have "it". How one comes to have "it", I don't know. But I sure was lucky to find "it".
Steve is always telling me that he "definitely married up". I disagree. I believe that it was I that married up and sometimes don't feel worthy of such a great man.
Steve is an awesome husband and father and I look forward to the many years to come.

YES on PROP 8
I just got this email that has been forwarded through many friends and thought that I would post it here.
It is imperitive that Prop 8 PASS. This initiative will impact generations to come and it is our time to be warriors in the fight against all that try to tear down the sacred institution of marriage and family.
Please, please, please register to vote and let YOUR voice be heard.
We are sending this to you because we live in California. Proposition 8 will be on our ballot in 2 months and we are working fervently to help it pass. It states that 'only marriage between a man and a woman is legal and recognized in California.' If it does not pass, same-sex marriage will be legal in this state. We believe that marriage between a man and a woman is sacred and meant to be eternal, designed to last beyond this life. God intended for husbands and wives to marry and create eternal families. We believe that this is His design and His will. The following six consequences have been identified should Proposition 8 not pass in California. Our rights and liberties will continue to erode if the sanctity of marriage and family are not preserved. You may have seen these consequences already, but they are worth re-reading, if only to help us find more ways to act in helping pass Proposition 8. 1. Children in public schools will have to be taught that same-sex marriage is just as good as traditional marriage. The California Education Code already requires that health education classes instruct children about marriage. (§51890) Therefore, unless Proposition 8 passes, children will be taught that marriage is between any two adults regardless of gender. There will be serious clashes between the secular school system and the right of parents to teach their children their own values and beliefs. 2. Churches may be sued over their tax exempt status if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their religious buildings open to the public. Ask whether your pastor, priest, minister, bishop, or rabbi is ready to perform such marriages in your chapels and sanctuaries. 3. Religious adoption agencies will be challenged by government agencies to give up their long-held right to place children only in homes with both a mother and a father. Catholic Charities in Boston already closed its doors in Massachusetts because courts legalized same-sex marriage there. 4. Religions that sponsor private schools with married student housing may be required to provide housing for same-sex couples, even if counter to church doctrine, or risk lawsuits over tax exemptions and related benefits. 5. Ministers who preach against same-sex marriages may be sued for hate speech and risk government fines. It already happened in Canada, a country that legalized gay marriage. A recent California court held that municipal employees may not say: “traditional marriage,” or “family values” because, after the same-sex marriage case, it is “hate speech.” 6. It will cost you money. This change in the definition of marriage will bring a cascade of lawsuits, including some already lost (e.g., photographers cannot now refuse to photograph gay marriages, doctors cannot now refuse to perform artificial insemination of gays even given other willing doctors). Even if courts eventually find in favor of a defender of traditional marriage (highly improbable given today’s activist judges), think of the money – your money – that will be spent on such legal battles. Additionally, think of all the unintended consequences that we cannot even foresee at this time. Where will it end? Let's work together to pass proposition 8. If you are a registered voter living in California, we invite you to vote YES on proposition 8 in November. If you live in California but are not registered to vote, we invite you to register so that you can vote YES on proposition 8. Go to www.sos.ca.gov/nvrc/fedorm/ to download the form. If you do not reside in California but know people that do, please encourage them to vote YES on proposition 8, and register to vote if necessary. If you are interested in actively helping to pass proposition 8, please go to www.protectmarriage.com or just reply to us and we can get you started. Thank you for your consideration and support of this monumental issue.

Puke-A-Palooza
Yesterday was just another day at the doctor's office. This seems to be a monthly occurance for us at the moment.
Jonathan is sick quite often: fever, vomiting, ear boo-boos, and just plain crummy feeling.
Well after seeing the doctor yesterday Jonathan is on another round of antibiotoics (yet again) and we finally got the doctor to agree to refer us to an ENT. We're exstatic. There is a silver lining around our vomit-filled cloud.
